In this role, Raman continues to be based in Singapore, and will be focused on accelerating learning service transformation.

Effective 1 August 2021, Raman Sidhu has moved from his current role as Chief OD & Learning Officer, Global Commercial (GC) at Shell to a senior global leadership role as the Group Head of Learning Operations, Royal Dutch Shell.

In this role, while continuing to be based in Singapore, Raman will be a part of Shell’s Global OD & Learning leadership team (LT), as well as the Global HR Operations and Employee Experience LT.

On this exciting development, Human Resources Online caught up with Raman for an exclusive insight into his career journey. Excerpts below:

Q Raman, congratulations! Tell us more about what your new role entails

It is a fantastic leadership opportunity for me to accelerate learning service transformation by digitalising processes, sharpening service delivery suites and skilling-up learning operations team and external partners in customer-centricity, operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Learning operations is at the heart of Shell’s learning design and delivery strategy in conceptualising and delivering a seamless learning experience for our learners.

My focus will be to transform the global learning portfolio by harnessing synergies of digitalisation, service excellence, execution pathways, and economies of scale.

I will have the opportunity to lead and work with learning operations colleagues from all parts of the world in Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

Q As you move onto this new global leadership role from your previous role in Global Commercial, what has been your most cherished moment with your team?

I have been blessed with a global team of OD and learning professionals supporting some of the most exciting B2B/B2C marketing businesses in Shell’s portfolio like global lubricants, aviation, and specialities.

Some of the memorable moments in this tenure have been the 12 Brandon Hall Awards GC won for excellence in learning delivery, Jiffy Lube University being placed in the hall of fame by Training magazine in the US and, successfully leading the GC indirect workforce learning strategy for over 800,000 channel partners through award winning initiatives like Jiffy Lube University, Shell Shanghai University, Distributor Academy and Workshop Academy.

I really enjoyed leading the digital capability agenda for Global Commercial culminating in a highly effective Advancing Digital Disruption programme in partnership with IMD for Shell leaders.

I was fortunate to lead a team to conceptualise and implement an indigenous ‘Predictors of Performance’ model to demonstrate the efficacy of learning interventions at L4 level in a commercial environment.

Q Kudos to you for bringing a global leadership role to Singapore, what are your reflections on this?

I am proud that Shell values diversity and recognises the significant role Singapore and Asia is playing in transforming the global economy.

I am personally delighted to see senior HR roles moving to Singapore across many of the global organisations enabling Asian talent to lead the global business agenda. I am a huge sponsor of diversity and Asian talent, and believe the trend of such roles moving across to Singapore will continue.
