More than 20,000 job opportunities by selected companies will be offered through the Human Resources Development (HRDF) Initiative, under Malaysia's National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA).
The initiative, known as PENJANA HRDF, was launched by Human Resources Minister M Saravanan on Monday (22 June), and has formed a joint venture with 10 organisations and associations representing their industries to provide job business opportunities together with training through five HRDF Strategic Initiatives.
These initiatives are namely:
- Place & Train;
- Upskilling & Reskilling;
- SME Development;
- B40 Development, and
- Gerak Insan Gemilang (GIG)
Among the earliest organisations and companies to be offering employment opportunities are the National Tech Association of Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional, Brickfields Asia College, Digital Economics Corporation of Malaysia, 7Eleven, Kelly, and Aeon, with Grab and Care Concierge providing opportunities in the gig industry.
Commenting on the launch, Datuk Seri Saravanan noted that HRDF had previously aimed to provide 40,000 job opportunities in the near future to all Malaysians. "By looking at today's developments, I believe more jobs can be created through this initiative."
He added: “I would like to urge more employers to collaborate under this PENJANA HRDF Initiative and for those who are unemployed or unemployed graduates, take this opportunity to find employment while improving skill sets to stay relevant in this increasingly challenging job market."

Digi launches altHR to equip Malaysian firms for the new normal
In separate news, yesterday (23 June), Digi Telecommunications (Digi) announced the release of altHR, a digital workforce management solution to help Malaysian companies digitalise HR processes and drive better employee empowerment and engagement.
According to Digi, the app includes new-normal features such as digital sales kits, contactless time tracking, paperless leave and expense management, and aims to address the problem of digitalisation of company processes commonly faced by SMEs. The launch of altHR is also in line with Digi’s aim to help more Malaysian companies go digital and to cope better with the unforeseen challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, it added.
The app will allow for leave applications, making and approving claims, submitting travel requests, accessing important documents such as payslips and handbooks, receiving updates on the company's latest news and announcements, and more. Apart from that, the app also allows companies to digitally onboard new hires, manage internal HR enquiries, and provide employees with a platform to engage essential services such as paying their utility bills and purchasing vouchers.
Commenting on this, Praveen Rajan, Digi's Chief Digital Officer, said the firm itself has been using the app for close to three years, and was in fact conceptualised from a need within Digi itself.
He shared: "As part of our own digital transformation, we needed a solution to enhance our employee experience and improve our HR operations, but after an endless search for the ‘perfect’ HR solution, we decided to build our own, and it has totally transformed the way we manage our HR processes.
"It turned out to be so effective that we continued improving it with the aim of creating more than just a digital HR solution, but an app that also empowers all other aspects of a business.”
The app will be made free for all Malaysian SMEs up till 21 December 2020.
