We're sure you love to celebrate diversity each day of the year, but we're also grateful for this occasion, International Women's Day (IWD) that's earmarked to remind us of just how important it is to continue making progress for a fair and equitable society for all. 

With this year's IWD theme designated as #ChoosetoChallenge, let's all take responsibility for our thoughts and actions in speaking up against decisions that contribute to gender bias or inequality. Let's challenge stereotypes and replace them with transparent and honest conversations. Let's challenge our loved ones, friends, colleagues, and leaders to think and behave in ways that help forge an inclusive world. Let's choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements today and year round.

8 ways to celebrate International Women's Day 2021 with your team
Get your team involved in the official #ChooseToChallenge campaign: This one's a fun and easy one - gather the team, be it in the office (keeping in mind safe management measures) or in a virtual chatroom, to strike the #ChooseToChallenge pose by raising your hand. According to the official IWD website, this pose signifies your "commitment to choose to challenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world." While you're at it, do consider submitting the picture as a pledge on the IWD site too

If it's hard to get everyone's time for the picture, you can always choose to do a collage instead.

Practical steps to being a role-model manager for your team
Proactively request for and follow up on feedback: Receiving feedback is one of the most valuable ways for employees to identify areas of strength and gaps in performance. While we are open to receiving praise, it can be challenging to receive constructive advice. Role-model managers overcome this resistance by requesting and being receptive towards feedback on their own performance, to demonstrate how acting on constructive feedback can sharpen one’s work performance.

Over time, this practice reduces conflict and resistance and creates a culture of open and transparent feedback that flows both ways between managers and team members.

Some proud achievements for P&G Indonesia include:

  • We have achieved equal gender representation in Indonesia. More than 50% of our managers are women, nearly 40% of our technicians in the Jakarta Plant are women, and we have constantly reduced women attrition on-site.
  • We conduct a regular enrichment session with female leaders from the region, psychologists, and other experts to share their knowledge on how to thrive in their career and personal life.
  • We continuously improve the need-based policy and support system to accommodate different life stage changes with best-in-class practices such as: extended paternity leave policies and on-site baby daycare to provide an easier arrangement for working parents.
