One month after Cathay Pacific's layoff announcement, and closure of Cathay Dragon, the airline said it is considering hiring pilots and cabin crew again in 2021.

“We have plans to recruit new pilots. As far as cabin crew are concerned, taking into consideration the number of passengers and the time needed to recruit and train them, we expect to start recruiting flight attendants in the second half of next year,” said Cathay CEO Augustus Tang.

In response to the second-round layoff rumour, Cathay chairman Patrick Healy reaffirmed that the company does not need to do so to maintain the business as he assumes the aviation industry will recover next year.

“(If the aviation industry recovers towards the end of 2021), our liquidity position and balance sheet are certainly strong enough to take us through the crisis without the need for recapitalisation and without the need for further retrenchment,” Healy said.
